A dump truck loaded with rocks ended up in the Manouane River following a swerve on Monday morning on Highway 461 westbound, near kilometer 103 in La Tuque.
According to initial information, the truck would have left the road, around 8 a.m., at the beginning of the bridge which crosses the Manouane River, before ending up vertically in the water.
Several responders, including firefighters and heavy vehicle tugs, went to the scene to reach the driver of the truck to evacuate him, said Sergeant Hélène St-Pierre, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ ).
As of 5 p.m., authorities had still not been able to release the driver, whose condition is still unknown.
A collision investigation officer from the SQ was expected on site to try to understand the causes and circumstances of the accident.
“The structure of the bridge must be checked”, also specified Ms. St-Pierre.
