A train of disturbances. And October will also start with a phase of heavy bad weather

Rome, 25 September 2024 – A train of Atlantic disturbances will reach Italy (Central-Northern Italy in particular) and the weather will remain (very) unstable even in the first week of October: these are the weather forecast for the next few days according to the experts at ilMeteo.it. With a small but significant note: there will be a drop in temperatures next weekend. Starting tomorrow, there will also be space for strong winds and storm surges.

Italy will be divided in two, trapped in a complex weather configurationcharacterized by two very contrasting scenarios: on the one hand, we will have even heavy rainon the other hand, a heat wave of African origin. This weather-climatic dichotomy – explains meteorologist Stefano Rossi – is the result of a vast cyclonic circulation that is dominating the Old Continent, with two low pressure nuclei positioned, one near the Scandinavian regions and the other near the United Kingdom.

It will be precisely this configuration – explains Rossi – that will have different and contrasting effects on Italy: if the northern regions and part of the central ones will be influenced by the influx of fresher and more unstable air masses, carried by the cyclonic circulation and responsible for the arrival of new disturbed systemsharbingers of precipitation, at the same time our South will be caressed by warm currents coming from North Africa, attracted by the same cyclonic structure and further favored by the advance of the African anticyclone.

After a brief respite from the bad weather during the day today, the weather situation will worsen again: Thursday, September 26 in fact the second disturbance of the week will arrive. areas most affected by bad weather will be the Alpine and pre-Alpine ones, but then the rains within the evening and in the following night are destined to extend up to the middle and upper Po Valley, involving first Lombardy and then the Tri-Veneto. Not even Liguria will be spared, indeed it will probably be affected by heavy rainfall, especially on the Genoese and on the I break.

The disturbed system will gradually move away from Italy over the course of Friday, September 27thbut the prospects for Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th September are not entirely rosy. A cold front, descending from Northern Europe, will in fact cross the Peninsula from North to South, causing fast showers and thunderstorms especially on the Adriatic side. This passage will be accompanied above all by a sharp drop in temperaturesalso in this case more marked in the eastern sectors of the country.

“According to the latest updates from the European Centre – we read in an in-depth article on the ilMeteo.it website –, next week will open with stable and sunny weather across most of the regions” but “a deep depressionpushed by Atlantic currents, will quickly cross central-western Europe, to then dive into the Mediterranean basin directly from the Rhone Gate”. Experts warn that “as often happens with this type of configuration, the entry of cold currents into our seas will favor the formation of a cyclone destined to cause rain and thunderstorms in the Central Northin particular from Thursday 3 October”. In particular in Liguria, Tuscany and Lazio “significant accumulations of rain are forecast, up toover 100 millimetersthen rapidly extending to the rest of Central and Northern Italy”.
