At 20.26 the grenade was blown up without problems.
– It is most likely an old war grenade that has washed ashore. You can see that in the rust, says the head of duty at North Jutland Police Thomas Ottesen after the explosion took place.
It is a 56-year-old female tourist from Copenhagen who found the grenade at the end of Grønnestrandvej.
– The mortar shell was lying on the edge of the beach and sloshing around, says the warden.
The police were on the scene for several hours on Wednesday evening. EOD, the Swedish Armed Forces bomb disposal team then arrived at the scene and handled the grenade.
– The grenade will be blown up by filling up gunpowder around it and blowing it all up at the same time. That’s what you usually do, so I suppose that’s also the case here, explained the warden about the explosion.
The first message from the police was that citizens were urged to stay away from the scene.
A mortar shell is a shell that is fired via a tube with a base plate. The grenade is very inaccurate when fired.

There are other places in North Jutland where you occasionally find old grenades. Among other things, one in Lille Vildmose, where the Germans had training facilities.
