A touch of the Olympics at the European Championships in Munich – more sport

Almost exactly 50 years following the opening of the Summer Games of the XX. Olympiade ibid raise the European Championships in Munich today. The second multi-EM following the one in Glasgow 2018 will mainly be performed at sports venues that were built for the 1972 Olympics. At that time, 7170 athletes from all over the world competed in 21 sports. 195 medal decisions were made within 14 days. 15 days of competition were planned, but the games were interrupted for a day following the terrorist attack on the Israeli team in the Olympic Village. Eleven Israelis, five terrorists and a policeman died. “The games must go on!” said Avery Brundage, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) following the funeral service on September 6th.
