A Thousand Runners Celebrate the Biosphere Run in the Tapping Hills

ABOUT a thousand runners took part in the BiosfeRun organized by the Borobudur Authority Agency in the Menoreh hills, precisely in Pagerharjo Village, Kulonprogo, DIY, Sunday (13/10).

The Main Director of the Borobudur Authority Agency, Agustin Warinangin, said that this activity was also to support the existence of the Merapi-Merbabu-Menoreh Biosphere Reserve. The area was recognized by UNESCO as a world biosphere reserve on October 28 2020.

Event This run is also to show the community, the tourism potential in the Borobudur area is not only around Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple, or Malioboro, but also in the Menoreh hills.

“The runners will become ambassadors of green tourism, not only when taking part event, but at the moment post-event,” he explained after letting the runners off. He hoped that the runners could continue to enjoy the beauty of nature and culture in the Menoreh Hills.

BOB has held trail run activities for the third time. This race competes in three categories, namely 5km, 10km and 21km.

International runners took part from 32 countries, such as Afghanistan, Australia, Bulgaria, India, Japan, Singapore, Russia, Switzerland, Taiwan, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

It explains, BiosfeRun is rebranding event trail The BOB Forest Run will be held 2 (two) times in 2022 and 2023. “The re-branding is intended to expand the impact by campaigning for the Biosphere Reserve as a real form of sustainable green tourism,” he explained.

It is hoped that BiosphereRun can be a celebration of all parties, including the community and business actors, who want to care about conservation matters as well core value destination area.

Chairman of the DIY Regional Tourism Promotion Agency (BPPD), GKR Bendara, said that BiosfeRun is very positive for the development of tourism in DI Yogyakarta. “Event “like this is very positive because it can show other parts of Yogyakarta besides Malioboro,” he explained.

BiosfeRun 2024 also involved 120 Gedruk and Topeng Ireng dancers performed by the young generation of the Menoreh hill village.
