A third of Germans are planning holidays at home

Spend the holiday in Germany? Two years ago, this sounded rather absurd to many holidaymakers, but the pandemic is causing around a third of Germans to recover in this country.
International travel destinations will become more interesting once more for German holidaymakers in 2022 following a shift in priorities due to corona. Nevertheless, Germany remains the preferred holiday destination for domestic tourists: almost 31 percent, six percent more than in 2019, want to vacation within the national borders this year, like the Statista graphic displays. This is the result of a survey by the Foundation for Future Questions, which surveyed 3,000 Germans as part of its annual tourism analysis.
Although the corona pandemic is far from over from a global perspective, around 14 percent of the participants are planning to go on vacation to a long-distance travel destination in 2022. In 2019, this share was still around 18 percent. Popular holiday destinations such as Spain, Italy and Greece are also more popular with German holidaymakers than they were in 2021. Regardless of the individual destinations, Germans in 2022 seem to be more willing to travel and, above all, more determined: only 16 percent are, according to the evaluation of the Stiftung für Zukunftsfragen still unsure regarding her travel plans for the coming year.
