According to a barometer from Public Health France, published on Tuesday February 22, nearly a third of French people have already been bitten by a tick, and more and more people have already heard of Lyme disease.
Did you know ? Lyme borreliosis is, according to Public Health France (SPF), “the most common vector-borne disease transmitted by ticks in France”. A national plan to fight once morest diseases transmitted by ticks was also put in place in 2016. However, it is still unknown to part of the population.
According to a health barometer, published Tuesday, February 22 by SPF, in 2019, 30% of the French population said they had already been bitten by a tick in their lifetime, 6% in the last six months, and 25% felt exposed to this risk. Rates up compared to 2016 (respectively 25, 4 and 23%). Regarding Lyme disease, more and more people heard regarding it between 2016 (66%) and 2019 (79%).
Long clothes, inspection…
According to the barometer, preventive measures once morest tick bites were applied by more people in 2019. In detail: among people who said they felt exposed to bites, 74% said they were wearing long winds, 53% inspect their body, and 17% use a repellent.
The forest (53%), the edges of fields or near (22%) and the garden (16%) are all places where people have reported being bitten by a tick.
“These results will make it possible to target future prevention campaigns to certain groups
age or regions more at risk”, specifies Public Health France.
