A huge archive containing numerous iOS and Android apps dating from 2012 to 2015 has emerged on the Net. This was obviously posted online on archive.org before being found recently and shared anonymously on Twitter. The enormous file has begun to be dissected by a handful of enthusiasts active on a Discord server, who have already made some discoveries.

The TestFlight website before its acquisition by Apple.

The archive contains game prototypes (Sonic Dash) and other beta versions of applications released through TestFlight at the time. Among other things, we found several Angry Birds games there. unpublished, and we can imagine that other interesting discoveries remain to be made in this archive, which still weighs 1.2 TB. It is unfortunately not possible to launch old apps directly on a recent device given that the files will not work not natively. However, it can be used on old devices. jailbroken.

TestFlight started as a platform for testing mobile apps for Android and iOS before being acquired by Apple early 2014. Cupertino shut down the old version of the TestFlightApp.com site in February 2015, and it appears that it was its cache that has been archived in the process. If the details are not clear, this huge batch is very interesting from the point of view of app preservation: many iOS games from this era are no longer available anywhere, and might get a new life thanks to this “leak” .
