A storm has been unleashed, not of little importance, over the post with which Riccardo Cassini – author of Stefano De Martino in Rai – commented on the visit of the Prime Minister to Beijing: “The mother of the fascists – he writes – is always in China”. A joke in bad taste, considering the presence of Ginevra, the daughter of the Prime Minister, who does not hold any public role and should be kept out of the political controversy.
Maurizio Gasparri, president of the Forza Italia senators, also spoke about the case: “There is a post online by a certain Riccardo Cassini, who is said to be among the authors of a Rai protagonist, a certain Stefano De Martino, in which he makes fun of Prime Minister Meloni and even her daughter, using a photo of her arrival in China, where mother and daughter are portrayed, with the words ‘The fascists’ mother is always in China’ written above, harking back to a well-known popular saying. Now dragging children into what, coming from the left, will evidently be defined as legitimate irony, seems to us to be a terrible fall in style. Therefore, if you are left-wing, you can take it out on the mother, on the children and say whatever you want. If the same thing had been done to a woman of the left with the roles reversed – Gasparri blurts out – we would already be at a general strike and an ‘insurrection’ against the television occupied by the center-right. How sad. How squalid these highly paid Rai authors are, always intent on denigrating, spreading hatred and attacking even children. I don’t know this Riccardo Cassini, nor this Stefano De Martino. But I know what I think of them”.
