A symposium on family planning and reproductive health support in Samalout, Minya

Major General Osama Al-Qadi, Governor of Minya, followed the efforts of the Population Unit in organizing many awareness-raising events, campaigns and seminars, aimed at the necessity of accelerating the local response to the population issue.

This comes within the framework of implementing the assignments of Major General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development, to place the population issue among the priorities of the files that the state seeks to work on.

In this context, the Population Unit at the Governorate General Office carried out a symposium entitled: “Man’s Responsibility towards Family Planning and Supporting Reproductive Health”, in the center and city of Samalout, in coordination with the Directorate of Social Solidarity and the Population Unit of the Samalut City Council. The symposium aimed at comprehensive awareness of men and women alike. Both with regard to shouldering responsibility towards the family and family planning issues, and the importance of the man’s role in making appropriate decisions in this regard to work to reduce the population increase that devours development efforts.

For his part, Dr. Reda Farouk, Director General of the Population Unit in the governorate, said that these seminars come within the framework of the political leadership’s interest in developing the Egyptian family, pointing out that the unit continues to implement seminars according to a specific time plan at the level of all centers of the governorate to ensure reaching the largest number of citizens and providing outreach to them.

The axes of the symposium dealt with educating and developing the knowledge of both men and women as a necessary condition for achieving participation, and the benefits of family planning, which include: “Enhancing learning and work opportunities for women, preserving child health, reducing pregnancy problems that women, especially young women, are exposed to, and reducing risks associated with pregnancy.” For older women, reducing deaths from early childbearing, and regulating family size.
