Albinen, in the canton of Valais, is offering more than HUF 21 million to families if they are willing to move to the village in the stunning valley. The settlement is located at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level, the windows of its houses overlook the snow-capped mountain peaks. A fabulous environment, yet the village is struggling with a serious demographic crisis.
At the end of 2018, the village had only 238 inhabitants. THE however, the program hopes to stop this trend.
Despite the alluring village being just over 6.8 kilometers from the spa town of Leukerbad and a 35-minute drive from the cantonal capital of Sion and the industrial town of Visp, the settlement has vacated over the years due to a lack of jobs.
Families of four receive 25,000 Swiss francs per adult and an additional 10,000 Swiss francs per child.
While the offer of more than £50,000 to move to one of the most beautiful places in the world is tempting, there are some requirements.
In order to stop the emptying of the city, Albinen is only looking for people under the age of 45 who are willing to settle for 10 years. If they leave the picturesque settlement earlier, they will have to pay back the approximately HUF 21 million subsidy.
The president of the municipality, Beat Jostin, said in 2017 that Albinen is quiet with a phenomenal view, excellent air and many hours of sunshine throughout the year.
The head of the settlement announced that there is no money involved in the construction of a second apartment or holiday home bought as an investment.
Despite the strict requirements, Switzerland boasts one of the best education systems in the world, and air pollution is not a big problem in the mountains.
Life expectancy is also relatively high, and the country has a low violent crime rate.
