The attack in the Crocus City Hall concert hall, north-west of Moscow, which caused at least 40 deaths and over 100 injuries, was claimed by the self-styled Islamic State via Telegram. In the claim, cited by the Guardian, we read that the “fighters of the Islamic State attacked a large gathering of Christians in the city of Krasnogorsk, on the outskirts of the Russian capital, Moscow, killing and wounding hundreds and causing great destruction at the site before they returned safely to their bases.”
An evening of terror and death in the concert hall northwest of Moscow, where a group of armed men in camouflage opened fire on the crowd. There is no official death toll yet, but local media speak of at least 40 dead and 100 injured. Russian special forces intervened on site with the aim of neutralizing the attackers. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on the entire international community to condemn the terrorist attack. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani is following the evolution of the matter, has expressed condemnation “of every form of terrorism” and has made it known that there is no information, at the moment, of Italians involved. For Washington “there is currently no indication” of Ukraine’s possible responsibility. Kiev’s military intelligence, for its part, called the attack a “deliberate provocation by the Putin regime.”
The Russian National Guard, Rosgvardia, said it was hunting the attackers at the concert hall in Moscow, who apparently managed to escape. This was reported by Tass. However, local media speak of a suspect arrested. Previously a man was taken away by Russian special forces. CNN reports that the United States had warned Russia of the risk of attacks by ISIS-K, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
