However, this national average hides strong disparities between Regions, provinces and municipalities, with the north of the country having the highest incomes overall, while the lowest are found in Brussels.
Thus in Flanders, the average net income per inhabitant reached 21,078 euros, or 7.2% more than the national average, specifies Statbel. The incomes of Walloons and Brussels residents were lower, with an average in the south of 18,518 euros (5.9% less than the national average) and in Brussels of 15,444 euros (21.5% less).
At the provincial level, it is still the two Brabant which occupy the top of the ranking of the highest incomes. In Flemish Brabant, the average annual income per inhabitant was 22,836 euros net and in neighboring Wallonia, 22,482 euros. All the Flemish provinces are then at the top of the ranking and we have to wait for seventh place to find a second Walloon province, in this case that of Luxembourg (19,363 euros). The Walloon province with the lowest average net income per inhabitant is that of Hainaut, with 17,118 euros. It is nevertheless located above the Brussels-Capital Region.
Statbel has also broken down the data by municipality and the one with the highest net income per capita is Sint-Martens-Latem (East Flanders) with 30,859 euros.
At the other end, the Brussels municipality of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode has the lowest average income per inhabitant, with 10,564 euros. Two other Brussels municipalities follow: Molenbeek-Saint-Jean and Anderlecht.
