A suicide attack in Balochistan was carried out by Mahil Baloch, a law student, BBC – Pakistan

In its report regarding the August 26 terrorist attacks in different areas of Balochistan, BBC Urdu revealed that one of the suicide bombers was Mahil Baloch, a law student at Turbat University. A woman with the same name was arrested on terrorism charges some time ago, but the BBC says that Mahil Baloch, who blew herself up, is different.

The BBC reported that just three days before the suicide attack in Bela, 23-year-old Mahil Baloch had left home after her university holidays and her home in Sarband, 25 kilometers from Gwadar district. Her father said there was nothing out of the ordinary the day she left home, and Mahil Baloch called home on the evening of August 23 to say the cellphone was broken so she would call herself.

Mahil Baloch’s father, Hameed Baloch, said that exactly three days later, on August 26, it was reported that Mahil Baloch carried out a suicide attack on the gate of a security forces camp at Belah.

According to a BBC report, Balochistan police confirmed that a woman was among the two suicide bombers. SSP Captain Naveed Alam said that 5 militants who attacked the FC camp were killed, including 3 suicide bombers, including a Katun named Mahil.

On the other hand, Jaind Baloch, the spokesperson of the banned BLA, claimed that Mahil Baloch formally joined the organization in 2022, after which he became a part of the Majeed Brigade in 2023 and during this time he also received training.

According to a BBC report, Mahil Baloch did her FA from Degree College Gwadar and then enrolled in LLB at Turbat University where she was a final semester student. He belonged to a political family of Godar.

According to the report, the full name of Mahil Baloch’s father is Kehda Hameed Esa, who has been the chairman of Sarbandar Union twice and his uncle has been the district nazim and chairman of Gwadar twice, while an uncle is also a government officer.

The BBC report quoted Mahil Baloch’s family and friends as saying that she had never taken part in political activities and had never indicated that she wanted to participate in any militant act.

A classmate of Mahil Baloch said, “Apparently she was not interested in politics and she never talked about armed struggle. Once we talked about who would practice and prepare for the commission.” So Mahil was more interested in advocacy’.

According to Mahil Baloch’s family, no one was ever forcibly disappeared in his family and no mutilated body was ever found.

On the other hand, Mahil Baloch’s father admitted that ‘there was never a time when she was not in touch for a long time or went somewhere.’

So why did Mahal do this? According to the BBC report, ‘the answer to this question is not clear’.
