A sudden heart attack took Guillermo Madrid, legend of national water polo

Don Guillermo Antonio Madrid he built an empire in the national water polo, he began as a player and extended that legacy to his entire family that today mourns his departure following a sudden heart attack He will turn off his life this Wednesday, February 22.

The father of Luis Guillermo, Juan Eugenio, Andrés, Álex and Andrea, leaves them a love for swimming pools because from a very young age he instilled in them this sport. The sons were ex-captains of the Colombian water polo team, while his daughter Andrea is a tough triathlon and competes nationally and internationally.

Guillermo instilled in them discipline, respect, dedication and commitment, not only in sports but also in life. “As a family we always stand out for our good physical preparation, for the warriors we are and for being very close”, their children agree.

One of Guillermo’s most outstanding achievements was being part of the ideal team of the World Cup in water polo that took place in Cali, in 1975.

“Memo”, as everyone affectionately called him, was a water polo emblem national and head of a family that made history in this sport.

It was difficult for him to retire from the activity, because until recent years he participated in different master tournaments, in which still partying trumps.

Also, he served as president of the Speedo Colombia brand.

So Don Guillermo Madrid left, but he left his mark on his family and on Colombian sports.
