A Sudanese official announces discussions with a Russian electricity company about a huge project

Regarding the energy projects that Russian companies can participate in in Sudan, the official said in an interview with RT on the sidelines of his participation in the “Russian Energy Week” forum hosted by Moscow last week: “There is a shortage of electrical energy in Sudan, and the projects that can be participated in are in two stages.” The first is the reconstruction and maintenance of existing electrical stations, and the second phase is new projects to generate additional energy.”

The Sudanese official indicated that he held a series of meetings with Russian energy companies during the forum to enhance cooperation in the field of energy.

He also pointed out that there are advanced discussions with the Russian company “Power Machines” to participate in a project for hydroelectric power stations.

The Director General of the Sudan Electricity Company said: “Within this visit there was a meeting with the Russian “Power Machines” company, and the meeting concluded with an agreement to finance or implement a project for hydroelectric power generation stations. In the coming period, after exchanging studies and feasibility, the comprehensive vision for the project will be completed, and thus The Russian company will submit a financial and technical offer to the Sudanese government and then make a decision about the project.”

He added that this project, if implemented, will add an additional 122 megawatts to the Sudanese energy system and will save a huge amount of fuel worth $100 million annually.

Last week, the Russian capital, Moscow, hosted the activities of the international forum “Russian Energy Week” with broad local, international and Arab participation.

In the plenary session of the forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that his country remains one of the main participants in the global energy market despite the great difficulties.

The Russian President pointed out that the destination of 90% of Russia’s energy exports has shifted to friendly countries, stressing that modern energy is the true basis for global development.
