A Sud-Rail activist very seriously injured in the eye during the demonstration in Paris on Thursday

This should greatly fuel the debate on police violence, on the occasion of the hardening of the conflict over pension reform. An activist from the Sud-Rail railway union was seriously injured in the eye during the demonstration Thursday in Paris against the pension reform, his union said on Friday, including a delegate who said that the railway worker would have lost the use of his eye.

“The surgeon told him that he would no longer see with his left eye,” said Friday evening Christophe Huguet, Sud-Rail delegate of the Technicentre Sud-Est Européen, in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, where his colleague works.

“He had surgery last night and this afternoon we received a message written by him via his family,” said the union representative. “It happened in Paris, at the head of the procession, just before arriving at the Opera. We think he received a burst of a de-encirclement grenade but we do not yet know precisely, ”added Mr. Huguet, himself present in the demonstration.

Sud-Rail denounces “the explosion of police violence”

A little earlier in the day, the union denounced in a press release “the explosion of police violence”. “We warn the government about its strategy of repression of the social movement in an attempt to silence it”, is it written. “In Paris, several SUD-Rail activists suffered completely uncontrolled and uncontrollable police attacks”, denounces the trade union organization, citing the case of this railway worker and another, “beaten up” and who had “ open skull”.

“This violence in the demonstrations must stop immediately”, claims SUD-Rail which calls on “all railway workers and railway workers to harden the movement, as a sign of protest and solidarity”.
