The fact that I. Vēgėlė will run for president has not been a big secret lately.
And, as promised, he announced the decision at the end of November.
Euphoric aura of love for the Motherland
The official start of I. Vēgėlė’s election campaign was given by an event in the Vaidila theater of the capital.
It started with a video clip. It contains, as it were, the biographies and personal fragments of I. Vēgėlė, as well as the feelings that should introduce him, accompanied by associative shots.
There were also inconsistencies. Let’s say that the newspaper is in the grandfather’s hands – not Lithuanian, but foreign, illustrating the “wide world” – and a view of the skyscrapers of the Moscow International Business Center.
How Delphi explained the representative of I. Vēgėlė, the team that created the clip uses footage from global video databases, where a specific location is not always indicated. Therefore, the choice was random and not purposeful, the video is said to have been edited.
“It all started here. This is where I took my first steps. This is where I spoke my first words. I received my first lessons in patience, concentration and respect for nature. I remember the kitchen bathed in the bright morning sun and my grandmother baking cast iron. Grandpa reading that special Saturday newspaper out loud. That smell and that unique taste of apricot jam.
Here are my first victories and first defeats, my father’s encouraging words and his inspiring life example. Here are those Lithuanian winters, a frozen nose, a frosted hat and trousers frozen to the horn. First love. True friendship. Resistance to injustice. Here I learned to create, explore culture, art, think quickly, think more broadly, find solutions on my own. And then we got freedom,” said a voice behind the frame.
According to him, new opportunities, new acquaintances, new experiences have opened up – so many different colors, cultures, tastes.
“It seems like an endless journey around the wide world. But the heart was drawn here. This is my home. This is my family. This is my land. This is my love – Lithuania”, announced the almost 2-minute long video clip, which was accompanied by “How wonderful, Lithuania, you are” performed on the Vaidila theater stage.
Ignas Kalpokas, docent of the Public Communication Department of Vytautas Magnus University (VDU), said that this event was quite pompous and polished.
