A study reveals the source of some “serious” urinary tract infections

A recent study revealed that a bacterium found in meat is responsible for hundreds of thousands of people with urinary tract infections, despite their great interest in personal hygiene, according to a newspaper report. Washington Post.

The study, prepared by researchers from George Washington University, showed that the bacteria “Ecoli” or known as “Escherichia coliThe amount found in meat may be responsible for causing urinary tract problems in half a million people in the United States.

The study, published in the journalJournal on Health85 percent of urinary tract infections are caused by E.coli bacteria, and 8 percent are contracted from meat.

The “Ecoli” bacteria is found naturally in the intestines of humans and animals, and most of its types are harmless, or cause diarrhea for a short period, but some of its strains are “dangerous”, and may cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting, according to the Mayo Clinic website.

The study relied on the results of 1188 samples of “Ecoli” bacteria infected with humans, and 1923 samples of different meats, including “chicken, turkey and pork”.

By tracking the strains of this bacteria, it was found that it infects up to 640,000 infections each year.

Lance Price, a professor of environmental health who led the researchers in conducting the study, said: “Most people are aware that eating undercooked meat … can give you an upset stomach.”

“We now know that some strains of E. coli from meat cause hundreds of thousands of UTIs,” he added.

Price noted that the results of this study expanded their “understanding” of what foodborne infections can look like and how they can be prevented.
