Al-Marsad newspaper: A study conducted by the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research showed that healthy sleep habits contribute to reducing the risk of several diseases.
The results of the study concluded that healthy sleep was associated with lower rates of heart, brain, and vascular diseases, in addition to stroke. According to “Sky News”.
Experts stressed the importance of sticking to a stable sleep schedule, which means trying to sleep and wake up every day at the same time, while trying to improve the sleep environment, by making the bedroom comfortable, quiet and suitable for body temperature.
According to researcher Stephen Malin, the human body needs sleep, according to four necessary stages, during one night, in order to obtain the required amount of rest.
He said, in the first and second stages, the body begins to lower the rhythm in which it operates in the waking state, and this is a preparation for the next stage known as “slow-wave sleep” and also called deep sleep.
He continued, the body works at this stage to restore cells and repair what was harmed during the day, as well as strengthening memory, so that it is stored in the long term, then the fourth stage comes, which is rapid eye movement sleep, which is the last, and as we see dreams.
Experts confirm that a person who does not take part in the last stage is at risk of developing memory disorders and cognitive abilities, and possibly heart problems and early death.
The researchers recommend, to get between seven to nine hours of sleep each night, while children are advised to get more, as children as young as 5 years old should sleep between 10 to 16 hours a day, including naps.
