The curtain officially fell on the World Cup, and the Argentine national team was crowned the most expensive title following an absence of 36 years.
The coronation of the Argentine national team was at the expense of the French national team, in the match that was played on the grounds of Lusail Stadium in Qatar, and ended with a penalty shootout for the tango dancers.
This match entered into a struggle that began 64 years ago, specifically the 1958 World Cup, which saw the Brazilian national team rise to the final to meet Sweden.
The conflict here is between the two continents that have dominated the World Cup throughout history, namely South America, which won 9 titles compared to 12 titles for Europe.
The struggle for the World Cup between America and Europe began 64 years ago, as we mentioned, when the Brazilian national team outperformed its Swedish counterpart, 5-2, to settle the first final between Europe and Latin America.
In the next version, the struggle for the championship continued, specifically in the 1962 final, which was held between Brazil and Czechoslovakia, and South America also decided it, with Brazil winning 3-1.
Then we move on to the 1970 World Cup, in which the Brazilian and Italian teams met in the final.
Latin domination continued at the expense of Europe, and the Brazilian national team achieved a victory at that time over Italy, 4-1.
And we come to the 1978 World Cup, which saw the Argentine national team reach the final to meet the Dutch national team to win the most expensive title.
The Argentine team settled this meeting and defeated the Netherlands, 3-1, to continue the Latin knot.
The Argentine national team returned and repeated its victory over Europe in the 1986 World Cup, following defeating Germany in the final, 3-2.
The first European victory over South America in history came in the 1990 edition, when Germany beat Argentina 1-0 in the final.
Then the championship returned once more to Latin America, following Brazil defeated Italy in the final, on penalties, in the 1994 edition.
Brazil continued in the finals, but lost the 1998 final once morest the French national team, with a score of 3-0.
But the Brazilian national team came back once more and beat Germany 2-0 in the final of the 2002 edition, and since then the tournament has not yet returned to Latin America.
Latin America tried to return to the championship in 2014, following the Argentine national team qualified for the final, but collided with the German machines, who settled the match with a clean goal.
Thus, the two continents met on 11 occasions in the World Cup final, South America won 8 of them, while the tournament went to Europe in three versions.
