The explosion that occurred overnight from Monday to Tuesday in Edegem in the province of Antwerp is intentional, confirmed the public prosecutor’s office of the Metropolis. It is not known, however, whether the event is to be related to the drug world, as is often the case with similar incidents in the Antwerp region. An investigating judge has been appointed.
A car was completely destroyed in the explosion. A nearby apartment building suffered no damage but the 75 residents were evacuated as a precaution and accommodated in a hotel. They have meanwhile been able to return to their homes. No injuries are reported. One person was hospitalized as a precaution due to his general state of health but the police specify that it is in no way linked to the explosion.
