A strike by workers at Geneva airport has caused some flights to be delayed or cancelled

The workers went on strike at 4 am. local time (5:00 a.m. Lithuanian time), protesting against the conditions set by the employer, the service company DNATA (Dubai National Air Transport Association).

Workers at DNATA, which handles about a fifth of the flights that pass through Geneva’s international airport, went on strike to demand “degrading working conditions and decent wages”, public sector union SSP said on social network X.

Around 80 workers wearing bright yellow safety vests and waving union flags and placards with slogans such as “DNATA is killing me” and “Unsafe work means frozen flights” gathered at the airport to strike early Sunday morning.

The airport admitted that the strike by staff had caused flight delays during the busiest Christmas period.

“Some of the service provider’s staff are on strike today and this is affecting our operations,” it said in a statement, apologizing to passengers for the inconvenience.

Geneva Airport spokesman Ignace Jeannerat emphasized that flights not involving DNATA staff are proceeding as usual.

“Most operations are going very smoothly,” he told AFP.
