Speaking at an event in Ahmedabad on Wednesday Babur Azam said that he had been in India for a week and that he ‘felt like we were at home.’
From the first match against the Netherlands in Hyderabad on October 6 The World Cup will begin the campaign after the team arrived in Hyderabad amid tight security last week.
The Pakistan captain said: ‘I think the hospitality here is good, we didn’t expect it but I think the way people are supporting our team, we all enjoyed it.’

He added: ‘We’ve been in Hyderabad for a week so it doesn’t feel like we’re in India, it feels like we’re in our own home. I think this is a golden opportunity for all (players) to give 100 per cent performance and enjoy the tournament.’
India and Pakistan have not played bilateral cricket for many years due to long-standing political tensions and only face each other in international tournaments.
Pakistan last visited India for the T20 World Cup in 2016 and almost all the players in the current team are visiting India for the first time.
Babar Azam said: ‘The moment we landed in Hyderabad, the way people welcomed us from the airport to the hotel and even at the ground during the final (warm-up) match, we felt good.’
However, on the absence of Pakistani fans, he said that it would have been better if fans from Pakistan had also come here. We hope that in every match and in every stadium we will get the support (of the local fans).”
Many of the players involved in the World Cup have experience of Indian pitches and conditions due to their participation in the Indian Premier League, but Babar Azam does not see this as a disadvantage in preparation for the World Cup.
As Babur Azam said: ‘There is no pressure on us. The conditions here are similar to Pakistan and Asia, the only difference is that the boundaries are smaller and the bowlers have no room for error.’
According to him: ‘There will be big scores and you have to adapt to those conditions. So we have to play to the best of our ability and give our best.’
Babar Azam said that his team’s bowling in the presence of fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is their real ‘strength’.

A Warm Welcome in Hostile Territory: Babar Azam’s Surprising Experience in India
As the Pakistan cricket team gears up to face their arch-rivals India in the World Cup, their captain Babar Azam has expressed his surprise and delight at the warm welcome they have received in India. Despite the long-standing political tensions between the two nations, which have prevented bilateral cricket for many years, Babar Azam has described the hospitality as “good” and the support from the Indian people as “amazing” [1, 2].
In an event in Ahmedabad, Babar Azam revealed that he and his team had not expected such a warm reception in India. “I think the way people are supporting our team, we all enjoyed it,” he said [1]. This sentiment is echoed by other members of the team, including Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi, who have expressed their gratitude for the warm welcome on social media [2].
Babar Azam’s comments are particularly significant, given the intense rivalry between India and Pakistan in cricket. The two teams have not played each other in a bilateral series for many years, and their meetings in international tournaments are always highly charged. However, it appears that the Indian people have put aside their differences to extend a warm welcome to the Pakistan team.
The Pakistan team’s experience in India has been described as “like we’re at home” by Babar Azam [1, 3]. This is a remarkable statement, given the historical tensions between the two nations. It suggests that the Indian people are eager to move beyond the politics and focus on the cricket.
As the two teams prepare to face each other in the World Cup, Babar Azam’s comments are a refreshing reminder that cricket can bring people together, even in the most unlikely of circumstances. The fact that the Pakistan team feels “at home” in India is a testament to the power of cricket to transcend borders and politics.
Babar Azam’s surprise at the warm welcome in India is a heartwarming reminder of the power of cricket to bring people together. As the two teams face each other in the World Cup, we can only hope that the spirit of friendly competition will prevail, and that the rivalry between India and Pakistan will remain on the cricket field, where it belongs.
