Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Muhammad Ali Al-Houthi, a prominent leader of the Houthi group in Yemen, sparked an interaction among activists on social media following he called on Saudi Arabia to respond to US threats to further reduce oil production.
This came in a tweet posted by Al-Houthi on his Twitter page, in which he said: “I advise the Kingdom.. the best response.. and the least response.. Saudi Arabia takes in the face of the sanctions to be implemented once morest it from America, putting pressure once more on OPEC by reducing 5%.. And the more America increases the sanctions, the more Saudi Arabia increases.” pressure on OPEC to increase the reduction.”
Amid the interaction, Khaled, the son of Saad Al-Jabri, the former Saudi security advisor, commented in a tweet: “An invitation to wonder: If the decision to reduce oil production and fight America is in Saudi Arabia’s interest, why does Al-Houthi advise more reductions, and he is a warring opponent of the Kingdom?!”
And the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in Saudi Arabia, Adel Al-Jubeir, had responded in an interview with CNN anchor Becky Anderson to accusing the Kingdom of siding with Russia in light of the “OPEC Plus” decision to reduce oil production last week, saying that the Kingdom “is biased towards trying to ensure the stability of oil markets.” Which is in the interest of consumers and producers alike.
Al-Jubeir added that “the decision to reduce quotas was taken unanimously by 22 countries. The markets responded very positively to this matter, as oil prices have fallen since last week, not increased.”
