A stay under the stars in Vieques

Contemplating the stars and the beautiful view of the ocean that Mount Carmel promises from the comfort of a bed is possible by spending the night at El Nido Bubble Tent, in Vieques; a novel concept that guarantees an experience of adventure and glamor while enjoying safe contact with nature.

Gabriela Giampietro, a native of the Czech Republic, and her husband Mathew Giampietro, an Italian living in the United States, are the creators of this concept. Both define themselves as lovers of the natural environment of Vieques so, following several vacation visits to Isla Nena, they decided to acquire land and build their residence, where -eventually- they would designate a space for the innovative project of the bubble house.

“I saw it on Instagram and I liked it. We brought it from Utah and I saw it as an excellent rental opportunity,” said Gabriela, mentioning that construction on Vieques began in 2014.

El Nido Bubble Tent is a concept for camping with comfort and safety, the owner pointed out. The bubble is located on a spacious terrace at the bottom of the couple’s property. It has a queen bed, portable air conditioner and bathroom. In this comfort, the guest will be able to enjoy the stars, the beauty of the moon, the song of the birds and other wonders of nature while spending the night in a transparent bubble-type hut.

“It’s more for the experience of lying down and seeing the stars and oceans,” said Gabriela in a telephone interview.

The completely transparent bubble-shaped tent has become one of the favorite accommodations for celebrating special occasions such as marriage proposals, anniversaries, photo sessions or simply an experience of connecting with nature.

“They love the experience of seeing the sky clearly, the view of the sea or hearing the birds. Those who stay love that one night only experience. Although they have an air conditioner, it is a one-night experience because, although the bed is comfortable and the air conditioning is enough to sleep comfortably for one night, the heat feels a bit,” said Gabriela.

Most reservations are made through Instagram and the property is only available in the months between November to March. “Those are the months that we are on the property. Most people contact me through the Instagram platform. Airbnb’s is more for exposure. Almost always when I arrive on the island, I already have 80% of the time booked,” the woman shared.

According to Gabriela, “90% (of clients) are tourists, mostly from the United States; while 10% are from Puerto Rico; mostly influencers; or they come to do ‘photoshooting’. They come, they stay one night and then they leave.

The rate for this experience is $259 per night and includes parking, Wi-Fi, and essential personal hygiene items, among other services. Its location makes it accessible to many places of interest and five minutes by car from the terminal.
