New Delhi: A man who stayed in a five-star hotel in Delhi for four months drowned without paying the bill, claiming to be an employee of the Abu Dhabi royal family. He did not pay the bill of 23 lakh rupees.
Delhi Police has registered a case of fraud and theft once morest Mohammad Sharif in a complaint filed by the management of Leela Palace Hotel in Delhi.
Sharif will move into Leela Palace on August 1. On November 20, he left the hotel without telling anyone. The hotel staff alleged that he had stolen several items from the room, including silverware and a pearl tray.
When he came to take a room at the hotel, he told the staff that he was a resident of UAE. It was said that he had a close relationship with a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family and was working for him. The explanation was that he was personally working closely with Shaikh and had come to India for official business purposes.
His business card, UAE resident card and other documents were shown to lend credence to his fabricated stories. In addition, he used to regularly talk to hotel staff regarding life in the UAE, according to the management complaint.
The documents produced by him are being examined by the police. The police concluded that these are likely to be fake.
The bill is Rs 35 lakh including room rent and four months service charge. Out of which he paid Rs 11.5 lakh. Rumi left without paying the balance. Also, he had given a check of Rs 20 lakh to the hotel staff. But the check was dated November 20, the day he left the hotel. Delhi Police is examining the CCTV footage to identify the accused.
