A true cult film from the 80s before seeing two other rather bad episodes succeed it in the 90s, RoboCop remains no less comfortably installed in pop culture. It seems that agent Alex Murphy had been lost for a while. He attempted a comeback with a cinema remake in 2014, but it was a failure. We saw him in Mortal Kombat 11 in 2020, but it had been 20 years and the title on PS2/XBOX/GameCube since he last benefited from a game in his name. Suffice it to say that there was great anticipation among fans and it was the Teyon studio that was entrusted with this mission of reviving the character.

Entertaining release
“RoboCop: Rogue City” draws heavily from its predecessor. It’s still an FPS, a first-person shooter, and we find a neon green font, as well as robotic aim. Fortunately, this new title goes much further. The story simply takes up the daily life of RoboCop who goes through missions during which he decimates hundreds of thugs in extremely violent scenes, but he is the victim of attacks of hallucinations caused by the conflict between his human side and his robot side. It is clear from the first minutes of the game that the adult and brutal atmosphere of the film has been respected and that is so much the better. At first glance, we are dealing with a “stupid and nasty” game in which RoboCop savagely shoots enemies who perish in pools of blood. This “Time Crisis” side of letting off steam is very entertaining and it is the main strength of the title with its fidelity to the original work.
The violence of the work well transcribed.
On the ground, RoboCop gives a feeling of omnipotence in the face of hordes of aggressive but ineffective enemies. Be careful, this does not mean that it is possible to pile into the pile without protecting yourself, because the enemies are sometimes so numerous that they can quickly reduce the health gauge. As for weapons, the basic pistol has unlimited ammunition, but it is possible to pick up enemy weapons for variety. The scenery can be destroyed and the adventure is improved by a tree of skills, each more useful than the other. RoboCop is rather stiff and slow, which isn’t very comfortable for gaming, but it’s realistic. If necessary, the sensitivity can be changed in the settings to shoot faster.
A crowd of enemies to eliminate.
This action gameplay doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it fits perfectly with what RoboCop is and it’s honestly a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the rest spoils this very good point. Starting with the graphics which are clearly reminiscent of the PS3. It’s ugly, the textures aren’t great, and display bugs are very common. During a secondary mission at the courthouse, an element is completely missing and this means abandoning the mission. Soon following, the sound began to crackle during several missions and the dialogue was out of sync with the image.
Some uninteresting quests…
Some flaws
The game suffers from several small flaws which, taken together, make the experience painful over the hours. The subtitles are written too small and the fluorescent green color sometimes blends in with the decor. It is therefore sometimes impossible to comfortably follow the dialogues. Some words have also been skipped by the translation. The game does not have French dubbing, but the interface is logically translated. However, certain words in English appear at several times. Hoping the developers fix this quickly with a patch, just like the display bugs.
The city can be visited in a small open world.
“RoboCop: Rogue City” is also an immersion in the work of a police officer, with secondary missions that require you to tackle administrative tasks or wander the streets and fine people. who demonstrate incivility. Some moments even offer the opportunity to investigate by inspecting crime scenes for clues. While it is normal not to end up with 100% action gameplay, the rhythm between these shooting phases, the investigations, the sometimes useless secondary missions and the dialogues is poorly calibrated. Long action sequences can give way to moments of investigation or equally long and frankly uninteresting dialogues.
Moments of investigation that cut between the action scenes.
