A specific type of milk added to coffee may reduce the risk of high blood pressure.

Researchers at the University of Toronto in Canada studied the health effects of replacing cow’s milk with soy milk (made from soybeans), by conducting a large analysis of 17 previous trials that included more than 500 people.

The average duration of each experiment was 4 weeks, with participants drinking an average of 500 ml of milk (either cow’s or soy milk) per day.

The research team found that in all studies, replacing cow’s milk with soy milk was associated with lower cholesterol levels, as well as lower blood pressure and markers of inflammation.

He revealed that the total sugar content of soy milk, on average, was about 60% lower than cow’s milk.

In this regard, the researchers pointed out the need to reconsider the classification of fortified soy milk as an ultra-processed food, because this classification “may be misleading.”

“Current evidence provides a good indication that replacing cow’s milk with soy milk may result in benefits for blood lipids, blood pressure and inflammation in adults,” the Canadian team said in an article published in the journal BMC Medicine.

Previous studies have claimed that pea milk is the only plant-based option that provides as many nutrients as cow’s milk.

Pea milk has been shown to contain the highest levels of phosphorus, zinc and selenium.

Plant milk is produced by grinding the crop and soaking it in water with emulsifiers and stabilizers.
