Al-Marsad newspaper: Dr. Irina Estrina, an immunologist and allergy specialist, revealed that bee honey may pose a threat to the lives of patients suffering from metabolic disorders and diabetes.
In an interview with the newspaper “Izvestia”, the specialist notes that many in the fall think regarding how to strengthen the immune system, and most of them believe that honey helps prevent respiratory diseases. But we must be aware that in some cases honey can be harmful.
She added, “Honey is actually attributed to beneficial nutrients. It contains fructose, glucose, maltose, sucrose, vitamins B, K and C as well as polyphenols and trace elements, which give it anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.”
And she continued, “It is not surprising that honey is considered one of the most beneficial foods for the immune system, as it is enough to eat two tablespoons of it per day to provide all the vitamins and minerals the body needs to strengthen the immune system. But we must know that honey contains simple carbohydrates. Therefore, it may be dangerous. affect the lives of those suffering from metabolic disorders, obesity and diabetes.”
She added, “Those who suffer from allergies should limit the intake of honey. It is true that the number of these people may be limited, but we must know that the symptoms of allergies can be very different. In particular, allergies can appear in the form of rashes, blisters, itching and inflammation. nose, angioedema and even anaphylactic shock, as well as causing breathing problems.”
She explained: “Some may experience painful bloating, cramps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. In more complex cases, honey may cause headaches, dizziness and even fainting. An allergic person can react differently to different types of honey: some are well tolerated, others are allergic. The most allergenic types of honey are flower honey and linden honey, because they contain meadowsweet grass pollen. Also, excessive consumption of honey can lead to an allergic attack.
