A special Pulitzer Prize for Ukrainian journalists

LMonday, May 9, Marjorie Miller, the Pulitzer Prize representative, hailed the “courage, endurance and commitment of journalists in Ukraine to report the truth during the ruthless invasion of their country by (Russian President) Vladimir Putin and his propaganda war in Russia”.

“Despite the bombardments, the kidnappings, the occupation and even the deaths in their ranks, (Ukrainian journalists) persevered to provide an accurate picture of a terrible reality, bringing honor to Ukraine and to journalists around the worldjudged Marjorie Miller who was speaking at a ceremony to award these prizes in New York.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, at least seven journalists, including three Ukrainians, have been killed since Russia launched a full-scale invasion on neighboring Ukraine on February 24.

Other prizes awarded

The Pulitzer Prizes, administered by Columbia University in northern Manhattan, also awarded for their 106e publishing several awards to a wide range of the American press for their coverage of local, national and international news in 2021.

Among these award-winning media, the New York Times, one of the world’s leading newspapers, wins three awards. One for a national investigation into road checks by American police, resulting in hundreds of deaths by firearms for which the agents generally escape any sanction. the New York Times also won the “international” Pulitzer Prize, and a $15,000 award for his investigation of the terrible civilian toll of US-led airstrikes in the Middle East, including Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

Its competitor the Washington Post was also honored in the “public service” category for its coverage of the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021 by supporters of former President Donald Trump, “one of the nation’s darkest days”.

Honor also for the regional press in the United States with, among many awards, a Pulitzer “investigative journalism” for the Tampa Bay Times for an investigation into the pollution and toxic risks of a battery recycling plant in Florida.
