This megalithic site erected on the banks of the Tagus, in Estramadura, was unearthed almost a century ago, before being swallowed up in 1963 by the construction of a dam and a reservoir. The relentless drought that is hitting the Iberian Peninsula has brought it out of the water, a boon for archaeologists and tourism stakeholders.
“It suits me because the dolmen is clearly visible. It is covered with water most of the time“, rejoices Ruben Argentas, owner of a local boat tour company. “So when the reservoir drops to 35%, the dolmen emerges and the “dolmen tourism” starts“. But not all the inhabitants are of the same opinion.
