The small Bernese village attracts hundreds of travelers from South Korea, the Philippines and Indonesia every day. What interests them is a small pontoon on Lake Brienz, the setting of the South Korean romantic comedy “Crash Landing on you”, a Netflix series released in 2019.

Almost everyone in Asia would have watched this series during the pandemic. And almost everyone now knows the little pontoon in Iseltwald. “The children love it, it was their dream to come here,” says a tourist at the microphone of 7:30 p.m. RTS.

The purpose of the visit of these many curious people: to feel, for a moment, in the skin of the protagonists of the series.

Poisoned gift

But there is a ransom of success: in the town, these incessant gatherings annoy. The groups of tourists would indeed parade from morning to evening, without consuming anything.

The authorities of Iseltwald no longer want to speak on the subject. A resident of the town sums up the situation at the microphone of 7:30 p.m.: “Empty the garbage cans, clean the public toilets, all of this is the town that pays for it. And so far, these tourists do not bring in much.”

The municipality has therefore just found a solution. She’s going to install turnstiles. From now on, you will have to pay to go to the toilet, but also pay five Swiss francs to be able to access the “grail”, the small pontoon.

Uncertain future

But there is no certainty that this measure will discourage fans of the South Korean series. The craze for the now famous pontoon of Iseltwald is probably not about to dry up, as Chinese tourists have still not started to travel as much as before the pandemic.

The release of a 2nd season of the series has not yet been communicated. It is also not known whether the Bernese village, this time, will be included.
