A solution to avoid pileups on the A-40?

One more step will soon be taken to secure a section of the A-40 so dreaded by motorists in the Lanaudière region.

On January 27, 2019, a pileup involving a dozen vehicles injured several people, forcing the closure of the sector for a few hours.

Following this accident, several actions were taken to improve the safety of this dreaded area, including a weather alert system that will be installed by September.

This detection system will be used to activate the flashing lights of two road signs to indicate to drivers if road conditions are difficult.

The second initiative that has been put in place is the planting of 24,000 plants near the section. These would act as windbreaks.

“For those who know the sector, we are always wary in winter. It’s hard to completely stop the wind blowing. Will it really help in the short term? Personally, if I can afford it, I doubt it, but we’ll see, ”believes Mario Labrecque, a motorist involved in the 2019 pileup.
