A Solidarity and Youth operation organized by the Martinique Red Cross

From August 22 to 26, 2022, the Martinique Red Cross launched an operation for young people aged 16 to 30. Different towns in the North Caribbean are hosting the event: Gros-Morne, Trinité, Marigot, Basse-Pointe and Le Robert.

The main people concerned are young people in isolation, sick people, disabled people and people in precarious situations. This is an initiative of a young trainee from the Red Cross, Soréya Zie Mé, 21, on vacation in Martinique and studying at a business school in La Rochelle. The objective is simple: to strengthen social ties among young people.

The territorial delegation of Martinique therefore organized an operation “Solidarity and Youth” at the Lucien Laroche space. 10 young people in precarious situations, isolated or with disabilities were able to talk for an hour with young volunteers and thus be made aware of the missions of the Red Cross. They also received a kit of hygiene products including toothpaste, sanitary napkins and razors.

For Joëlle Francil, administrator within the territorial delegation of the Martinique Red Cross, this solidarity operation responds to a real need in Martinique:

It is a youth operation. The objective is to exchange with young people from diverse backgrounds. For this, they chose the North Caribbean. Youth is really part of the priorities of the strategic contract of the Martinique Red Cross.

The territorial delegation of the Martinique Red Cross is also launching an appeal to recruit young volunteers:

Today, the mission of these young people is to recruit. The kit is not the primary objective. It is the exchange and commitment at the level of young people, with the objective of bringing young people from all walks of life closer together.
