“It is known that the opposition led by (Donald) Tusk is very co-European, so by all parameters this is good news for Europe. But then again, let’s keep in mind that this is not a fact yet,” she told LRT radio on Monday.
Opinion polls show the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party won Sunday’s Polish parliamentary election, but the opposition will have a chance to form a majority.
The leader of the opposition, D. Tusk, declared on Sunday that the rule of PiS is over.
Final results are expected Tuesday morning.
According to A.Skaisgirytė, it is very likely that Polish President Andrzej Duda will ask PiS, which won the elections, to offer to form a government.
“This is still a pending step, when the PiS party will most likely form a government, form a coalition. Well, and depending on the success or failure of that coalition, further steps will be taken,” said the presidential adviser.
She urged not to rush the course of events too much and emphasized that Lithuania and Poland will continue to maintain “very friendly, brotherly, neighborly relations, no matter who is in power”.
“I think that we will find a consensus and our communication will continue to be very, very close,” said A.Skaisgirytė.
According to her, security will continue to be an important topic in both bilateral and regional relations.
