Austria’s shortage of skilled workers has developed into a full-scale labor shortage affecting all walks of life. Mag. Oguzhan Köse, founder and managing director of KÖSCHE Solution, emphasizes that many companies have not yet fully exploited the potential of people with immigrant backgrounds in their workforce.

According to Statistics Austria, there are approximately 2.45 million people in Austria with an immigrant background, accounting for 27.2% of the total population. Yet this vast demographic potential often remains unexploited.

Urgent question

This situation is particularly worrisome in blue-collar industries such as industrial companies. In some industries, the proportion of employees with migrant backgrounds is as high as 80%. Despite their large numbers, their specific needs are often not adequately taken into account when recruiting and recruiting personnel and targeting this target group.

“A huge potential is being lost here,” Köse explains. “While ethnic recruiting will not immediately solve the problem of employee shortages, it is critical for many industries to focus on addressing this issue. Companies should expand their recruiting mix and identify which communication channels can leverage this large target group. Reaching them effectively should focus on apprentices who represent the skilled workers of the future.

strategic solutions

KÖSCHE Solution offers targeted solutions that support companies in tapping the potential of people with a migration background. Ethnic recruitment opens up avenues to expand the talent pool and improve recruitment through a targeted approach. This not only supports the development of new markets, but also enhances innovation capabilities through diverse perspectives.

An inclusive work environment can improve employee satisfaction and retention and help meet legal anti-discrimination requirements. By specifically addressing and integrating people with immigrant backgrounds, companies can also tap into new human resources and networks, aiding recruitment in the long run.
