Just days following an NCAA player was arrested for homicide, the small world of basket American was struck by another drama. A shooting exploded this Wednesday in a gymnasium, on the sidelines of a High School meeting… The stands were full of families and children. Fortunately, the balance sheet is rather light.
Unfortunately, violence takes hold of amateur basketball across the Atlantic… A few days ago, it was a star from the University of Alabama who was arrested by the police in the early morning following the murder of a young woman who would have refused his advances on campus. While the player might have dreamed of a professional career, he will now have to rely on his lawyers to avoid the death penalty.
And the dark streak continued this Wednesday in Oklahoma with a shooting during a High School game. The meeting was broadcast on a local channel, and the images quickly made the rounds on social networks. The stands were filled with children and families, which makes the sequence even more disturbing, but fortunately the toll was light. The website News9 Explain :

Del City police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the shooting in the high school gymnasium following the game between Del City and Millwood. The officers present on the spot evacuated the room following the first shots, but the shooting continued in the parking lot. One injured person was taken to hospital, but no student was injured. The suspect was arrested for attempted homicide. He wasn’t enrolled in Del City, nor was the victim.
Barely seconds following the final buzzer of the meeting between Del City and Millwood, an 18-year-old young man opened fire on another spectator, in a room nevertheless full of families… one injured, one too many, it is still quite worrying. Basketball should be an escape, not a sport in which you can lose your life. Even more worrying is the attitude of the youngest in the field:
Those kids are so desensitized to the violence they are laughing as they are escaping

These children are so desensitized to violence that they laugh while running away…
A drama was clearly avoided this Wednesday, since the shooter had only one target in mind. No one was hit by a stray bullet, and encounters should quickly repget to Del City. The school will probably invest in ways to prevent such an evening…
