A sex movie in a world archaeological site provokes a wave of anger.. What is the reason?

The Greek Ministry of Culture opened an investigation following the publication of a short film showing people having sex in an ancient Greek temple located in the capital, Athens.

The newspaper “The Independent” that the film appeared on the Internet last December, and the Ministry of Culture said that it had not granted permission to shoot the film in the Acropolis temple, which is considered a world heritage.

The 36-minute movie, titled “Departhenon”, was shown on the Internet on December 21, but did not come to the attention of the authorities until this week.

The film shows two men having sex in a circle formed around them by other actors, while visitors to the site appear in the background.

“The archaeological site is not suitable for any kind of activity that would cause insult and display disrespect for the monument,” the ministry said in a statement.

The actors in the film wear masks on their faces, while its makers, who did not reveal their identity, said that the film is “a work of art and politics as well.” They explained that they wanted to film the sexual scene in a place “charged with national values”.

Spyros Bypilas, head of the Greek Actors Association, described the film as a “disgrace”.
