Demonstrating its readiness to work in real conditions, the truck company sent two pre-production prototypes on a road trip through 23 European countries. The trip started in Germany, in Frankfurt am Main, and later Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were visited. The onward route will wind through Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Monaco, France, Spain, Gibraltar, Portugal, Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg, finishing where it started: Germany. Each truck, pulling a weight of 40 tons, will cover more than 13,000 miles. kilometers. This weekend, the trucks loaded with their capacity batteries stopped in Lithuania (Garliava, Kaunas district), thus completing the northern European tests.

13 thousand km tour through Europe

If a test by the specialist magazine Trucker convinced that this truck, powered by two synchronous electric motors and supported by 600 kW of battery power, can work all day without additional charging, now Mercedes-Benz has taken another step to show the whole world that electric the truck can be a reliable transport for working across Europe.

Designed specifically for electric drive, the eActros 600 strives to prove that it can be trusted in the Alps, in hot southern Spain, in the humid coastal region, and in the harsh north of Finland. To ensure reliable test results, drivers have to charge their trucks only at public charging stations and try to make the most of the 500 km that Mercedes-Benz can travel on a single charge. In this endurance test, he will have to settle for a maximum charging power of 400 kW, which is freely available to other electric car drivers. The company promises to share the results with all interested customers.

June 11 The tour that started in Frankfurt is also the first meeting with potential customers. Series sales of the eActros 600 will begin just a few months following the end of the tour, with the order book already boasting more than 1,000 applications and more acquisition requests. Another aim of this pan-European event is to actively engage in dialogue with politicians, whose approval is needed for the development of a network of high-capacity charging stations, without which the development of this green transport will be much slower than it might be, so it is believed that this practical and obvious commercial transport the demonstration of prospects will provide the necessary impetus for the development of the necessary infrastructure.

„eActros 600“

This truck is a non-electric fossil fuel powered truck, it was designed from the ground up with electric motor traction in mind. Although regarding 60 percent Mercedes-Benz customers’ routes are shorter than the promised 500 km, but the truck can be charged with a current of 400 kW, and in tests it also withstood 1 mW of charging. These extremely fast charging batteries can already be installed in the eActros 600 models on order, but such powerful chargers are currently only available in logistics bases. Such a charger can charge a truck from 20 to 80 percent. within 30 minutes, its standardization is currently underway in Europe. If charging with a standard CCS charger, the same process would take regarding 60 minutes.

The truck’s power source is three water-cooled lithium iron phosphate batteries with a total capacity of 621 kW. The two three-phase 200 kW motors on the front and rear axles can reach a peak power of 854 hp. The minimum stopping distance of a heavy truck (11.6 tons) is ensured by electro-hydraulic brakes.

The Axial Concept from Mercedes-Benz Trucks is a holistic approach to technology, consulting and charging station infrastructure, giving future eActros 600 owners and drivers peace of mind. As soon as the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 hits the road, it will be held to the same high Mercedes-Benz standards as passenger cars.

Due to the strict driving schedule and complicated logistics, the public was not invited to get acquainted with perhaps the first sustainable long-distance commercial transport, but those interested in this technologically advanced vehicle can contact any “Veho Lietuva” representative office, where they will be provided with more information.
