The Oslo police and Øyvind Bratlien, the defender of Høiby, will not confirm information that an interrogation will be carried out on Thursday. However, the legal counsel for Juliane Snekkestad, lawyer Petter J. Grødem, states that his client will appear for a third questioning in just a few days.
The aggrieved woman after the violent incident at Frogner on the night of 4 August will also appear for another questioning on Thursday, NTB is informed. Høiby is charged with bodily harm and damage after the drama that unfolded in the woman’s apartment.
Høiby admitted on 16 August that he had committed bodily harm and damage. He called the offended woman his girlfriend, and pointed out that he has drug problems and mental disorders.
More information on Friday
Despite the open admission, which was communicated to the media via his lawyer Øyvind Bratlien, Høiby has not allowed himself to be questioned by the police, more than two weeks after the incident. The police will not say anything about when this will happen.
– At the request of the lawyer, we have not disclosed the time and place for the questioning. We will generally provide some more information on the case on Friday, says press manager Unni Grøndahl in the Oslo police district to NTB.
In the wake of the violence case on the night of 4 August, two of Høiby’s former girlfriends have gone public with accusations of violence, information which the police have opened an investigation into. Juliane Snekkestad (29) was a lover and roommate with Marius Høiby from 2018 to 2022, while Nora Haukland (27) was with Høiby in 2022 and 2023.
– As a defender for Marius, it is not possible or correct for me to comment on any new claim or information in the media, writes Bratlien in an SMS to NTB on Wednesday afternoon.
New allegations of violence
According to the two women’s lawyers, the police have chosen to investigate the two cases following suspicions of a breach of the provisions for violence in close relationships.
– She has explained her experiences of physical and psychological violence from Marius Borg Høiby from the time they were together, says lawyer John Christian Elden, who has been appointed as legal aid for Nora Haukland.
She explained herself to the police on Wednesday in a six-hour-long interrogation. It has not been clarified whether there is a need for further questioning of her.
– Haukland has explained himself about incidents that have taken place both in the public space and in their shared home. In some incidents, there have also been third parties present, says Elden.
She has not herself reported the situation to the police.
Awaiting new information
Høiby has not been charged with anything against the two former girlfriends, but has the status of a suspect. The charge of bodily harm has a penalty of one year in prison, but the provision on violence in close relationships is much more serious and has a penalty of six years in prison.
Counsel for the aggrieved woman, Mette Yvonne Larsen, tells NTB that she will find out more about the police’s charge against Høiby, and whether it is appropriate to change it, after her client has been interviewed again.
Both Snekkestad and Haukland discussed their relationship with Høiby in social media and did not contact the police themselves in the first instance. Lawyer Petter J. Grødem says on Wednesday that Snekkestad is doing what the police ask of her.
– She is concerned with two things: getting the truth out and making her contribution to ensuring that this does not happen again, Grødem tells NTB.
Want to cooperate
Snekkestad was interviewed by the police for the first time on Friday last week. On Tuesday, she met the investigators again together with the assistance lawyer. On Wednesday it became known that the police want to interview her for a third time on Thursday, writes Aftenposten.
– She has been very clear that she wants to cooperate with the police and answer the questions they have. She understands very well that the police want to finish talking to her, says Grødem to NTB.
The legal aid attorney emphasizes that it is not unusual for the same person to be interviewed several times during an investigation.
Silent defender
The fact that someone has been given the status of offended in a case does not automatically mean that someone has been charged on the other side.
Marius Borg Høiby’s defender, lawyer Øyvind Bratlien, has kept a very low profile in the case and has not commented on the latest information about questioning of former lovers.
– The earliest we will comment anything more is if the police take new formal steps in the case, writes the defender to NTB.
After Crown Prince Haakon briefly commented on the matter while visiting the Olympic Games in Paris almost two weeks ago, the royal house has not commented on the matter linked to Mette-Marit’s son either.
