In just regarding 10 minutes on the evening of February 4, a series of accidents involving nearly 50 vehicles occurred on a highway in Hunan province. The local traffic police confirmed that “several vehicles were on fire”.

Footage made by the newspaper People’s Daily Posts showed trucks with delivery company logos on fire, and cars overturned and deformed. A plume of black smoke was also seen from the scene of the collision.

Traffic police said 16 people were killed in the crash and 66 others were injured.

“The injured were quickly taken to the hospital for treatment, of which eight were relatively seriously injured. The vital signs of the hospitalized people are now stable,” the traffic police said. .

People’s Daily said the series of accidents took place in Trường Sa city, Hunan province. More than 180 rescuers were dispatched to the scene of the accident.

On February 5, China’s emergency management agency said it was investigating the cause of the accident.
