The individual was placed under an arrest warrant on June 28, the Brussels prosecutor’s office said on Sunday, confirming information from La Capitale. The council chamber extended his preventive detention for one month on July 1, added the prosecution.
The 20-year-old victim was shot dead on April 18 around 8:40 p.m. in the passenger compartment of a car parked on rue Dubois-Thorn in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. Another vehicle, white in color and registered in Luxembourg, had stopped alongside it. An armed passenger got out, got into the vehicle and shot the driver. The shooter then fled on foot towards rue Osseghem. The driver of the light vehicle had also fled in that direction.
The investigation has identified a first suspect, the alleged perpetrator of the shot. He was arrested on June 1 in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, while riding in the back of a taxi checked for dangerous driving. The next day, the suspect was interviewed by an investigating judge before being placed under an arrest warrant. On June 8, the Brussels council chamber extended his arrest warrant for a month.
According to La Capitale, the second individual is suspected of having driven the car that conveyed the killer. The suspect reportedly said he was unaware of the shooter’s criminal intentions.
