Saturday March 19 was a day without press in Chad at the call of the Union of Chadian Journalists. A movement to protest once morest the exclusion of journalists from the Doha dialogue in Qatar, between the government and the politico-military groups on the future of the country.
This day without press was partially followed. The 2 most listened to radio stations in the capital, Dja FM and Liberté FM did not broadcast all day. On the news and television site side, the movement is more shared.
For the Union of Chadian Journalists, this day is a success. According to this union, more than 90% of it was followed by members of the URPT, the Union of private radio stations in Chad, by around ten newspapers and around twenty electronic media.
The message to the authorities has passed, explains the vice-president of the movement André Kodmadjingar: “ We want to send a strong message to the authorities that it is the private press which is the barometer of democracy, and if today democracy is anchored in Chad, it is thanks to this press and therefore we do not want certain authorities are stepping on us. So we initiated this movement to say be careful Doha, you have pushed us aside, but in Chad we want to be involved. »
« We want to inform »
André Kodmadjingar recalls the important role of these talks in Doha and therefore why it is important that the Chadian population stay informed: “ Chad’s political future and stability are currently being played out in Doha, Qatar, so we didn’t want to be on the sidelines of this historic meeting. We are also Chadians, and we are also the spokesperson for the Chadian people and we want to inform our listeners, our viewers in real time. »
