Three excellent films by Federico Fellini, Neri Marcore and Luca Lucini, make up the puzzle of the screenings of this year’s tribute to Italian Cinema, organized again this year by the Deputy Mayor of Culture in collaboration with the Italian Educational Institute of Athens in the outdoor areaof the new City Hall of Patras.
The screenings will begin at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17with Federico Fellini’s film “La dolce vita” (Sweet Life), starring Marcello Mastroianni, Anita Ekberg and Anouk Aimé.
Cinema fans will watch one of Federico Fellini’s masterpieces, the legendary film that angered the Vatican in the 1960s and touched social consciences.
Reference point and protagonist Marcello a journalist in Rome in the 1950s. With his reports he covers social news, movie stars, miracles and scandals of the aristocracy.
The film covers seven days in the life of Marcello who, despite all his professional and social success, seeks a deeper meaning in life and thinks that the secret of life lies in wealth, which in his opinion frees man from the compatibility of of life. But when he loses his best friend, he understands that the meaning of life lies elsewhere…
The Sweet Life won many awards. It was awarded the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1960. In 1961 it received a New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Film.
Also in 1961 he won three Sindacato Nazionale Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani awards for Best Actor, Best Screenplay and Best Scenery. Anouk Eme was awarded by Étoile de Cristal for best female performance. In 1962 the film received an Oscar for best costumes.
