A risk of fire forces Mercedes to recall hundreds of thousands of cars: here are the models concerned!

The affected cars are the GLE / GLS, C-Class, E-Class, G-Class, S-Class, GLC and CLS models. A leak in the diesel engines could pose a fire hazard, the company said.

It would be about 800,000 vehicles affected, according to Handelsblatt and Bild, but the company did not want to confirm this figure.

The Belgian spokesperson for the brand, Sébastien Van den Moortel, confirms the technical defect, but specifies that the fire would only occur in the most extreme cases. “There is therefore no reason to panic,” he notes, not himself aware of vehicles having caught fire.

Mercedes says the recall was already launched in November, but repairs will only be able to start in the middle or end of that month because parts have to be waited for. In the meantime, owners of these cars are urged to use them as little as possible and with the utmost caution.

“Belgian owners will all receive a letter telling them if their car is affected by the fault. Then they will receive an invitation to make an appointment to repair the fault. In the meantime, they must be vigilant. If the dashboard indicates that the coolant has dropped, it is best to contact the garage immediately, ”said Mr. Van den Moortel.
