A new medical study has found that a simple blood test can detect multiple types of cancer before patients develop symptoms.
According to the newspaper,The GuardianThe study collected blood tests for more than 6,600 adults aged 50 years and over, and succeeded in detecting cases early without having obvious symptoms.
“I think what’s exciting regarding this new model and concept is that many of the cases were cancers for which we don’t have any screening,” the study’s lead researcher at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, D. its standard.
Doctors hope this study will eventually save lives by detecting cancer early enough to make surgery and treatment more effective, but the technology is still being developed.
Tests confirmed the presence of tumors or leukemia in 35 people, representing 1.4 percent of the study group. The test also detected two types of cancer in a woman with breast and endometrial tumors.
In addition to detecting the presence of disease, the test predicts where the cancer is located, allowing doctors to accurately identify and confirm the infection.
Further analyzes found that the blood test was negative for 99.1 percent of those without cancer, meaning that only a small percentage of healthy people received a false positive result.
It turns out that regarding 38 percent of those who tested positive had cancer.
Schrag said the new blood test was not yet ready to be implemented and that people should continue their regular cancer screening while the technology was developed.
