He can no longer heal himself. For eighteen years, Jean-Louis has been fighting lung cancer. Until now, the medication taken by the septuagenarian was reimbursed. But the situation changed last April. When he went to the pharmacy to get IRESSA 250 mg sold by the AstraZeneca laboratory, he discovered that it was not no longer 100% refunded by Health Insurance but at 60% like the generic. Precisely, for a box priced at 1,390 euros, he now has to pay 635 euros of sa poche. “I fought once morest an illness, now I have to fight to heal myself,” regrets the patient speaking to BFM TV. If he has tried other medications, the others have caused too many side effects and he cannot take them.

“I no longer take care of myself”

Because of this situation, he decided to question a deputy and the laboratory. He assures that today, he “has no choice but to pay or contact the laboratory to see if they might give him a price”. In a letter addressed to the Minister of Health, he explains that he has not taken treatment for two months. “ I no longer take care of myself. Since Social Security wants to save money, and it will, I won’t cost them anything anymore,” the septuagenarian reveals to BFM TV.

The news channel recalls that “the Public Health Code stipulates that a patient can keep the original medication if they have a contraindication to each of the available generics.” However, the National Health Insurance Fund explains that this recourse would not apply to Jean-Pierre’s case.
