A resolution was submitted in the Senate to conduct the election at the appointed time

A resolution has been submitted to the Senate Secretariat to conduct the election on time. The resolution has been submitted by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed of Jamaat-e-Islami, in which it has been asked that the approved resolution regarding the postponement of the elections should be considered null and void.

He said that I present a resolution in this honorable house and demand through this resolution that holding election is a constitutional requirement. The resolution said that it is the primary responsibility of the Election Commission and the caretaker government to conduct the election at the appointed time as per the constitution.

Senator Mushtaq Ahmed said in the resolution that the decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan has also come regarding the recent election, and the Election Commission has also fixed the date that the election will be held on February 8, 2024.

He said that the resolution passed postponing the election is unconstitutional and undemocratic.

It should be noted that yesterday the Senate passed the resolution to postpone the general elections to be held on February 8 in the country by majority vote.

At the time of passing the resolution, there were only 14 members present in the upper house, out of which only PML-N Senator Afnanullah opposed the resolution while PTI Senator Gardeep Singh and PPP’s Bahramand Tangi remained silent. Showcases have also been issued by their parties for not indicating quorum.
