A resident of Grimbergen receives a fine while he is parked… in front of his home

It is information that is at the very least challenging but oh so interesting (because it could be useful to you!) reported by the VRT this Tuesday, November 1. A resident of Grimbergen has indeed discovered a municipal fine on his car while he was parked … in front of his home.

But what is the offense committed? After information, it turns out that the individual had omitted to indicate the registration number of his vehicle on the door of his garage. However, the Highway Code stipulates that it is “prohibited to park a vehicle in front of an entrance, an exit or a garage door, with the exception of vehicles whose registration number is affixed in a legible manner to this door”.

On the side of the fined citizen, they do not hide their frustration and they believe that a police officer could at least have come forward for a call to order. Contacted by our Flemish colleagues, Grimbergen mobility alderman Philip Roosen explains: “Our officers can impose administrative communal sanctions (SAC), but in principle this only happens in the event of serious violations or when the offenders have been well warned. I assume that this way of working was also followed here, but I don’t know the concrete situation.”

The alderman adds that vehicles parked in front of their own garage door are not a priority for the municipality. “We don’t hunt for these kinds of minor offences. But our agents are encountering this problem more and more. And the law remains the law”he concludes.
